The House Oversight Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing Wednesday about Hatch Act violations under the Trump administration. The key witness, Kellyanne Conway, has been advised by the administration to avoid appearing.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, a Maryland Democrat, said he would hold a vote to subpoena Conway “to compel her appearance at a future hearing.”
The Office of Special Counsel recently found Conway violated the Hatch Act several times by making “disparaging” statements against Democrats during official appearances in her role as counselor to the president.
Conway is among several current and former Trump administration officials who have refused to testify before Democrat-led House investigatory panels.
Democrats have subpoenaed most of the reluctant witnesses and have threatened them with contempt of Congress citations.
