The high school graduation rate hit a record high for the 2014-15 school year, the Obama administration said Monday.
The four-year graduation rate for the year was 83.2 percent, according to a statement issued by the White House. Asians and Pacific Islanders had the highest rate of any racial demographic, with a completion rate of 87 percent. They were followed by students characterized as white (84 percent), Hispanic (71 percent), black (67 percent), and American-Indians or Alaskan natives (65 percent).

New Mexico had the lowest graduation rate of any state, with 68.6 percent of students completing their education. Iowa had the highest, with 90.8 percent. The District of Columbia saw the greatest improvement, at a total of 7 percent points.
The overall change represented an improvement of 4.2 percent over the 2010-11 school year, when 79 percent of students finished high school nationally.
President Obama is scheduled to visit Benjamin Banneker Academic High School in Washington, D.C., on Monday to speak on the issue.
