QUICK NOTES: What I’m driving this week

Like the occasional convergence of the planets in their orbits around the sun, there are times in the new car review business when scheduling hiccups cause two or more vehicles to crowd the driveway during a week. This week is just such an occasion, as I have three test vehicles. First, there is the new Jaguar XK, a gorgeous example of the English marque’s continuing ability to capture the essence of speed in the lines of an automobile. No matter from which angle it is viewed, the XK is a stunningly beautiful vehicle. Next, there is the Saturn Aura XR sedan. You sometimes know within a few minutes of first getting behind the wheel whether a new model “works.” The Aura XR is such a car. I knew within the first five miles of driving it that this is definitely the best sedan ever from GM’s sometimes-orphaned import-fighter division. Finally, there is the Dodge Caliber. This may be the ultimate tall wagon and Dodge certainly has priced the Caliber competitively against the Toyota Matrix. I don’t care much for the styling, but the utility of the Caliber is clearly quite appealing. Lengthier assessments of all three of these vehicles will appear in this space in the near future.
