'We will succeed': Queen Elizabeth urges Britons to keep their 'resolve' in rare address amid pandemic

Queen Elizabeth II encouraged Britons to keep supporting each other in the fight against the coronavirus.

The queen offered a rare public address from isolation via livestream on Sunday, expressing empathy with those that have suffered from the COVID-19 virus, both financially and through the loss of a loved one. She urged the United Kingdom to keep its “resolve” to stay home and mitigate the risk of spreading the pathogen further.

“I hope in the years to come, everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge. And those who come after us will say the Britons of this generation were as strong as any. That the attributes of self-discipline, of quiet good-humored resolve, and of fellow-feeling still characterize this country,” she said.

“While we have faced challenges before, this one is different. This time, we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavor, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal,” the queen continued. “We will succeed — and that success will belong to every one of us.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was diagnosed with the coronavirus last month and was hospitalized Sunday at the advice of physicians who were tending to him in quarantine.
