Trump welcomes North Korea’s ‘productive’ statement after summit canceled

President Trump on Friday welcomed North Korea’s “productive” statement that was issued after Trump postponed the June 12 summit, and said he would have to see if it allows the two countries to reschedule.

“Very good news to receive the warm and productive statement from North Korea,” he tweeted. “We will soon see where it will lead, hopefully to long and enduring prosperity and peace. Only time (and talent) will tell!”

Trump said Thursday he was canceling his planned summit with Kim Jong Un because of the harsh rhetoric North Korea was using, including a message that said remarks made by Vice President Mike Pence were “ignorant and stupid.”

After Trump canceled, North Korea released a new statement saying it was still willing to meet.

“We express our willingness to sit down face-to-face with the U.S. and resolve issues anytime and in any format,” a spokesman said.
