Actor Shia LaBeouf launched what he says will be a four-year-long protest project against President Trump on the day of the Republican’s inauguration.
LaBeouf has set up a camera installation outside the Museum of the Moving Image in New York with the phrase “He will not divide us” printed in bold on the wall. The camera will be streaming live 24/7 and participants are encouraged to stop before the camera and repeat the phrase.
The project, located at hewillnotdivide.us, launched Friday morning and is supposed to stay live for the next four years — the duration of Trump’s presidential term.
“Commencing at 9am on January 20, 2017, the day of the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, the public is invited to deliver the words ‘HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US’ into a camera mounted on a wall outside the Museum of the Moving Image, New York, repeating the phrase as many times, and for as long as they wish,” the project’s website reads. “In this way, the mantra ‘HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US’ acts as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community.”
The project was created in collaboration with Nastja Sade Ronkko and Luke Turner, the website said.
A few minutes into the launch, actor and Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith was captured on camera chanting, “He will not divide us.” LaBeuof was seen sitting passively against the wall while Smith repeated the mantra. Smith stayed in front of the camera for five hours, during which he was joined by numerous other protesters, some holding anti-Trump signs.

The eccentric “Transformers” actor is famous for absurd performance art pieces. In the past, he wore a paper bag over his head at a red carpet, live streamed himself watching all of his films at a theater for three days and embarked on a social media-directed hitchhiking trip across the country.
