Receptionist charged with making bomb threats

A defense company receptionist was arrested and charged with making numerous bomb threats to defense and homeland security contractors because she was bored at work, according to charging documents. Latoya Bridgeforth, a secretary at L-3 Communications, called in numerous bomb threats to tenants of the office building at 80 M St. SE, according to documents filed in federal court. In one call, Bridgeforth allegedly tried to disguise her voice as a male stating, “My wife left me, I’m going to bomb the building.” The office building was evacuated and cleared by law enforcement on several occasions. – Scott McCabe

Hit-and-run driver caught 

U.S. Marshals and D.C. police detectives captured the driver suspected of fleeing a hit-and-run accident in Northwest Washington that resulted in the death of 2-year-old Brandi McComb. Authorities found Christopher Henry Edwards, of the 100 block of Irvington Street SW, on Monday night hiding under the steps of a residence in Temple Hills. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and held without bail. Police said Edwards was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Monte Carlo that struck the Plymouth Neon that was carrying Brandi, her mother and two other passengers. – Scott McCabe

Steroids arrest in Leesburg

A Loudoun County man was arrested on charges of steroid and drug possession Friday after federal authorities in August intercepted two shipments containing more than 22,000 steroid doses from China at JFK International Airport in New York. Jeremy S. Helbing, 30, of Leesburg, Va. had more than 1,000 doses of human growth hormone, 250 doses of steroids, 13.9 grams of marijuana and 320 syringes when his residence was searched in August, according to a report from the Loudoun County sheriff’s office. – Dan Genz
