A high school in York, Pa., has an increased police presence at school Tuesday in the wake of rumors that a student made threats on social media against the school.
Monday evening and into Tuesday morning, Central York School District became aware of numerous reports that a student put up a social media post threatening Central York High School, according to a statement on the district’s website.
Since Monday night, local police have been investigating the post and rumors, but have not yet been able to find evidence to substantiate the threat or prove that it’s credible. Still, the school said it would have “additional police presence” at the school as a “proactive measure.”
“If you are concerned for your child’s safety and wish to keep him or her home from school today, that absence will be excused,” the district said in a statement, planning to keep the schools open and operating as normal.
In a follow-up statement, the school district said there was a second social media post being investigated by police that threatened the middle and elementary schools in Central York School District. That post said that in response to this second threat, there would be no outside activities today.
The school district spokeswoman did not immediately respond for comment regarding the social media threats.
