Napolitano hasn’t been doing her job Re: “Case-by-case deportation review to start,” Aug. 19

OK, so doesn’t Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano get it that all illegal immigrants are criminals and have broken the law by illegally crossing the border and entering this country?

How can she say that “from a law enforcement and public safety perspective, DHS enforcement resources must continue to be focused on our highest priorities” when keeping illegals out of the country should be one of, if not the highest priority of DHS in the first place?

Administration officials like Napolitano have really forgotten the oath of office they took to uphold the law.

Most Americans consider secular liberals ‘extreme’

Re: “Mainstream U.S. rejects views of Bachmann, Perry,” From Readers, Aug. 19

It is presumptuous for David Lampo to state that Americans will repudiate Michele Bachmann or Rick Perry at the polls because of their religious beliefs. Most Americans view as “extreme” those who embrace anti-biblical positions such as same-sex marriage. Indeed, it is the moral stance of Mr. Obama, who represents the creme de la creme of liberalism, that they have soundly repudiated.

Americans are beginning to see the link between prosperity and morality. Having witnessed the failure of moral relativity, they are ready to abandon the secular thinking that has led this nation into the moral abyss.

America is a center-right nation whose very founding was based on biblical principles. More Americans are likely to identify with Bachmann and Perry than with morally relativistic liberals.

PLA will improve Dulles Rail safety, efficiency

Re: “Airports agency terms itself ally of toll road users,” Aug. 18

As politicians fight against the project labor agreement for Phase II of the Dulles Metro extension, it’s more important than ever that taxpayers have all the facts about this critical economic development and job-creating tool.

Numerous independent reports indicate that PLAs ensure construction projects are completed on time and on budget. An August 2010 Michigan State University and University of Rhode Island study confirmed substantial improvements in efficiency and safety in projects supported by PLAs. In keeping with those findings, Phase I of the Dulles Metro extension was completed on schedule — and on budget.

Given Phase I’s demonstrated success, we shouldn’t stand for the twisted reasoning of elected leaders who want to hold up funding for this critical transit project because it could create good paying, family-supporting jobs.

What’s more, if Gov. Bob McDonnell refuses to fund the project, tolls will increase to $20 or $30 round trip for the Dulles Toll Road. Our region not only can’t afford, but shouldn’t tolerate attempts from politicians to score points with corporate supporters at the expense of middle-class families.
