Va. Dems elect Moran as chairman

Brian Moran, a former state delegate from Alexandria, has been selected as the new chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia.

The Democratic state central committee, the party’s governing board, selected Moran over Peter Rousselot, former chairman of the Arlington County Democratic Committee. Moran succeeds C. Richard Cranwell as the party’s leader.

Moran, 51, ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination in Virginia’s gubernatorial race last year. He was elected to Virginia’s House of Delegates in 1996 and was chairman of the Democratic caucus from 2001 until he resigned in 2008.
