Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has been in contact with Robert Ritchie, best known as Kid Rock, as the musician potentially gears up for a potential Senate run in 2018.
Bannon and Ritchie have been in regular phone contact about possibly running against incumbent and Michigan Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a source told RealClearPolitics.
Bannon, who last week at the Values Voters Summit declared a “season of war” on Republican lawmakers and is attempting to overthrow the “GOP establishment” in 2018, has been meeting with Republican donors, following the Alabama special election where Roy Moore defeated Sen. Luther Strange. Strange was backed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and President Trump, in a GOP primary runoff election; Bannon supported Moore.
Bannon said he plans to implement a similar strategy to future GOP primaries in 2018 to undermine the efforts of the GOP establishment and promote Trump’s populist agenda. Ritchie has repeatedly teased a Senate run since July, but has avoided confirming whether he plans to run or not.
