Hollywood celebrities are threatening to boycott Southwest Airlines for not speaking up about a new election integrity law in Texas.
“.@SouthwestAir will you speak out to condemn Texas state legislature’s voter suppression bill #SB7?” actress Piper Perabo tweeted in response to a post from former DNC Chairman Howard Dean. “I spend my money with companies who support voting rights.”

The call to boycott Southwest Airlines comes days after American Airlines, also based in Texas, publicly slammed the Texas voting law passed by the state Senate last week that aims to address voter fraud and tighten safeguards on the vote-by-mail process.
“We are strongly opposed to this bill and others like it,” the airline said in a statement. “Any legislation dealing with how elections are conducted must ensure ballot integrity and security while making it easier to vote, not harder,” the statement continued. “At American, we believe we should break down barriers to diversity, equity and inclusion in our society – not create them.”
Prominent Democrats across the country have echoed a similar sentiment, including President Joe Biden, who said he supported Major League Baseball moving its All-Star Game out of Georgia in response to a similar voting law. Major League Baseball followed Biden’s leading a day later and announced the game would not be played in the Peach State.

“Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “We proudly used our platform to encourage baseball fans and communities throughout our country to perform their civic duty and actively participate in the voting process. Fair access to voting continues to have our game’s unwavering support.”
The league announced on Tuesday that the game will instead be played at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.
