Escaped inmate is back behind bars

A prison inmate who escaped from the Metropolitan Transition Center in Baltimore on Monday was captured Thursday morning by members of the Warrant Apprehension Task Force.

Detectives from Maryland State Police and Baltimore City Police found Gerard Damon, 25, hiding in a row house apartment in the 900 block of Arlington Avenue in West Baltimore about 8:15 a.m., prison officials said. He was arrested without incident.

Damon had been serving a three-year sentence on drug charges when he ran from the prison after returning from a road crew detail. He had fewer than 18 months left on his sentence.

He faces possible additional charges, which could lead to a longer sentence and the removal of any good behavior credits he may have that would have allowed him to leave prison next fall, prison officials said.
