Franken: Email leaks not hurting Clinton ‘at all’

Democratic senator Al Franken, D-Minn., said he doesn’t think the WikiLeaks release of Hillary Clinton’s internal campaign staff emails has harmed the candidate.

“I don’t think they have been damaging at all,” Franken said Wednesday on MSNBC. “I’ve been through a campaign, I’ve been kind of astounded by how sort of run-of-the-mill these emails have been. I think that’s why they really haven’t made much news.”

The most recent stash of hacked emails includes one in which a former top aide admitted in March 2015 that “there is just no good answer” to questions about why the then-secretary of state used a private email server while on the job. Others expressed frustration with the candidate, including one describing Clinton’s instincts as sometimes “terrible.”

Despite recent national polling suggesting that the race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump for the White House is tightening as election day draws close, Franken said he believes the Democratic presidential nominee is still leading.

“Well, I don’t think she’s neck and neck with Trump. I think she’s ahead,” he said. “We have to wait on election day to find out who wins, of course.”
