D.C. schools predict the weather for news station

Six District elementary schools now have the capability to predict the weather.

The ABC 7 WeatherBug Schools Program outfitted the public STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) schools with weather stations, high-def cameras, lightning detection tools and related educational software.

Students can use the weather stations and cameras to provide real-time information to the ABC 7 weather team.

The six schools are all part of the DC Catalyst STEM Project. They are: Beers Elementary School, Burroughs Education Campus, Emery Education Campus, Langdon Education Campus, Malcolm X Elementary School and Whittier Education Campus.

“The theme of weather integrates science, technology and math, but can also improve students’ understanding of social studies and cultures from around the world,” said Melvina Jones, STEM coordinator for D.C. Public Schools.
