Embattled Democratic Sen. Warnock and ex-wife file to seal custody battle record

Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock and his ex-wife filed a motion to seal the records of their custody battle as the Democrat faces a hard-fought reelection campaign.

Warnock, who was found trailing GOP challenger Herschel Walker in a recent poll, asked the Fulton County court jointly with his ex-wife Ouleye Ndoye to make the records of their divorce and custody battle over their two children unavailable to the public. Court documents filed Tuesday obtained by the Washington Free Beacon stated the couple fears Warnock’s political opponents could use the records as fodder that would harm their minor children.

“Parties show the opposition is utilizing the public record in order to gain some political advantage or gain, but more importantly said pleadings can harm the parties’ children who are by nature targets of [Warnock’s] opposition,” the document read. “The minor children could possibly be harmed by the opposition or any unstable person that sympathizes with them.”

The filing also asked that any “future pleadings” in their custody battle be sealed as well.

Warnock is locked in a close reelection race with Walker, who is leading the polls by 1.6 percentage points, according to the RealClearPolitics average. Walker also has a contentious relationship with his ex-wife, who accused him of domestic violence.

Warnock and Ndoye married in 2016 and divorced in 2020 while Warnock was running in Georgia’s special Senate election. Shortly before the date of the runoff election in which Warnock secured victory over incumbent Kelly Loeffler in January 2021, police video and reports from a March 2020 domestic dispute between the couple came to light. Ndoye accused Warnock of running over her foot with his car, which he denied, and an officer called to the scene did not find supporting evidence.

“I’ve tried to keep the way that he acts under wraps for a long time, and today he crossed the line,” Ndoye said in the police report. “So that is what is going on here. And he’s a great actor. He is phenomenal at putting on a really good show.”

Warnock’s campaign did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
