The 3-minute interview: Bonnie Ashley

Bonnie Ashley?s advice for women about to get married? Don?t! At 53, the Maryland native?s 11 marriages all have ended in divorce. Now single, she has self-published her story ? “Ex-husband in Freezer” (Outskirts Press) ? and says she?ll never say “I do” again.

You married two men three times each. Why keep going back to them?

One made wonderful promises to me, and I was young and naive. He kept saying he?d be different. The other man, I was in lust with, not love. We had the best chemistry. If he wanted to come over for an hour today I would probably let him.

Did you keep your wedding gowns?

I only have two ? the rest were blue jeans, justice of thepeace things. Oh wait, I have three. I always forget about the first one.

How many of your weddings were in Vegas?

Just three! Those were chemistry guy.

Any advice for engaged couples?

Obviously, I can?t tell people how to make a marriage work. But I can tell you, if you don?t take the time necessary to know these people inside and out, you are probably going to get divorced.

Will you ever marry again?

No. I?m done. I?ve been divorced for two years now and that?s the longest since 1974. It?s great. I married a minister who watched porn on the Internet after I went to bed. One held a shotgun to my head. One had affair after affair. I?ve wasted 30 years on losers ? I won?t waste one more day.
