To give credit where credit is due, the “Oh Pleeeeze” column idea came from one of our photographers, who noticed that the Bayhawks? press pass exclaims in big bold type “NO AUTOGRAPHS.” C?mon. Reporters asking for lacrosse autographs? Oh Pleeeze!
At a recent Orioles game, a local radio producer purchased upper-deck tickets. Around the fourth inning, in an almost empty Camden Yards, he scooped up his young daughter, bought some popcorn and a couple of sodas and moved down to an almost empty lower deck.
After they settled in for the rest of the game, one of the Orioles? militant ushers demanded to see their tickets.
Admitting they were guilty of seat upgrading and not wanting to make a scene, father and daughter were sent packing. After their climb back to the upper deck came a near-futile search for an open concession stand.
Seat jumping in a packed house is one thing, but halfway through a game with hardly any fans? Oh Pleeeze!
According to WBAL radio sports guy Keith Mills, Anheuser-Busch spent nearly $40 million to sponsor the World Cup in Germany, but apparently the Germans have said nein to our grade of suds. What was that again? $40 million? Oh Pleeeze! Looks like the “Real Men of Genius” were left high and dry on that one.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
Max?s Taphouse in historic Fells Point is celebrating its 20th year, and owner Ron Furman got quite an anniversary present.
Nationally known for being one of the best places to get a beer, the Taphouse has, for the past year, been bottling its famous Max?s Classic Wing Sauce.
And as of this week, Wegman?s in Hunt Valley is carrying the wing sauce. “We are so proud to have our locally made sauce become a part of Wegman?s. And it?s perfect timing, since families are now grilling outside,” Ron said. Shopping tip: It can be found in Aisle 7.
OOPS!
In Tuesday?s column on the Children?s Scholarship Fund Baltimore (www.CSFBaltimore.org), I changed John Erickson?s first name and the name of John and Nancy?s yacht, The Andrea Cay. My apologies.
