Traffic alert: Avoid 16th Street today

Motorists headed out of the District of Columbia this afternoon via 16th Street Northwest should find an alternate route. Work continues on the busted 12-inch water main in the 2400 block of 16th Street, and drivers should expect delays between Florida Avenue and Harvard Street, according to the D.C. Department of Transportation.

Travel on 16th Street, a major north-south artery, is currently restricted to one lane northbound, and those restrictions could remain in place through the evening rush hour. DDOT, the police department and the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority are on the scene.
