Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Tuesday he and his wife Iris Weinshall were “very proud” to announce they will become grandparents this November.
“Today our daughter Jessica and son-in-law Shappy announced she is pregnant. Very proud – we are going to become grandparents at last!!”

Jessica Schumer, the senator’s eldest daughter, and Michael Shapiro were wed in in 2016. They first met in 2011 when they were policy advisers for the White House’s National Economic Council.
Shapiro also shared on social media that the couple will be having a boy, which he said would be “part of the forthcoming blue wave” — an allusion to the Democrats’ hope they will regain control of Congress in the midterm elections this November.
