Trump’s 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale believes that potential impeachment proceedings against President Trump may come with a silver lining.
Parscale sees a “political upside” should Democrats in the House move to impeach the president, though the process would hurt the president and the country in numerous other ways, Parscale told CBS News.
“There’s a lot of things that can happen in the world that can be a political upside that you would never want. … I wouldn’t want this, either. This is not good,” Parscale said. “Dividing our country … those types of fights are never good. … The president is gonna win … on the agenda and the message that he wants, and I would never promote anything like that.”
At least 67 Democrats and one Republican support impeaching the president in the House, far from the 218 votes needed to pass. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has so far blocked impeachment proceedings from moving forward. Without her approval, impeachment will go nowhere.
Pelosi may be avoiding trying to impeach the president because she fears a political backlash. Many of the House seats that give Democrats a majority in the House are from competitive districts and moving to impeach Trump may make more centrist voters stay home or even vote against Democrats.
