The Virginia Department of Transportation will advertise an estimated $1.1 billion in road construction and maintenance during the first six months of fiscal 2011.
The billion dollars worth of road projects create or fund an estimated 33,900 jobs, according to Gov. Bob McDonnell. The projects also create $2.83 billion in economic activity and generate $282.5 million in taxes collected by Virginia, according to the governor’s estimates.
McDonnell has touted his administration’s push to speed up the process of approving transportation projects through VDOT and spending all available transportation funding resources.
