At least one more Secret Service agent has tested positive for COVID-19, and several others have fallen ill.
The information, released Thursday evening, is based on the claims of two anonymous senior administration officials, according to the New York Times. Ahead of Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to Arizona, at least one Secret Service agent on the ground in Phoenix tested positive for the coronavirus, with other agents and federal officers exhibiting symptoms. The agency urged the VP’s office to delay the trip by a day, which it ultimately did.
At least three Secret Service agents who worked on the advanced preparation team for President Trump’s rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, tested positive for the virus, according to the Washington Post.
The Secret Service has declined to comment regarding how many of its agents have fallen victim to the virus.
“Instead of highlighting Vice President Pence’s concerted effort with Task Force members to visit and support states with new cases, The Washington Post is choosing to use its pages to report on a story of little use to every day Americans attempting to learn more about how coronavirus affects them or the Administration’s response efforts,” Pence spokesman Devin O’Malley said in a statement.
