The conservative movement, along with numberless friends of every political coloration, lost a stalwart this weekend when John Von Kannon died, after a long wrestling match with cancer. Most of those friends knew him as “Baron,” though when he was mentioned in the third person, the definitive article was usually attached, as in: “The Baron just told me an amazing joke,” or (just as often) “The Baron picked up the tab last night.” We offer our best wishes and deepest condolences to his wife Cindy and his two children, Jack and Rachel.
The Heritage Foundation has a tribute to the Baron’s professional achievements, which includes the stunning datum that Baron raised more than $1 billion for conservative causes over his 35 year career. Steve Hayward has a characteristically lovely tribute at Powerline.
