The shooter who left at least 50 people dead at a nightclub in Orlando reportedly called 911 to pledge his allegiance to the Islamic State before committing the attack, according to a report from NBC News.
Omar Mateen has been identified as the shooter who opened fire in a gay Orlando nightclub called Pulse, committing the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.
While Mateen’s motives are still being investigated, more evidence is pointing towards a possible link to terrorism. The FBI is already investigating those possible links.
NBC and CNN claimed Mateen allegiance to the Islamic State and also mentioned the two Boston bombers during the call.
Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., told reporters that Intelligence Committee staff informed him of a potential link between Mateen and radical terrorists.
Mateen was born in the U.S. but his parents were from Afghanistan. His father told NBC that religion had nothing to do with the attack and that Mateen was enraged recently when he saw two gay men kissing.
