One dead, two sick from carbon monoxide leak in Northwest

One man died and two women were sickened by carbon monixide poisoning in their Northwest home, a D.C. fire official said Sunday.

Fire and emergency response vehicles responded to a call to the 3300 block of Warder Street, Northwest at about 2 p.m. Sunday. They were met  by a female resident in her 20s who reported trouble breathing but seemed delerious and could not communicate with the responders, according to fire spokesman Pete Piringer.

Inside the home, firemen found an older male and female unconscious apparently from carbon monoxide poisoning. The male was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman was resuscitated and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police and fire evacuated the adjacent rowhouses and are conducting a full investigation, Piringer said. A furnace is believed to have been the cause of the leak.
