House Speaker Paul Ryan condemned the shooting of Dallas police officers and peaceful demonstrators, declaring “a few perpetrators of evil don’t represent us, they don’t control us.”
Five police officers were killed and seven injured by a sniper who was later killed by law enforcement.
Two civilians were also shot.
“Who can fathom such a horror as this?” Ryan said in a floor speech. He then made reference to President Obama’s comments earlier Friday about the shooting.
“As the president rightfully said, justice will be done.”
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., also spoke on the floor.
“Whatever the motivation of this horrible crime, it is clear the perpetrators of this vile act have an agenda of evil,” Pelosi said.
