WASHINGTON (AP) — A New York artist has won a national portraiture competition and will be commissioned to create an original piece for the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
The museum announced Friday night that Bo Gehring of Beacon, N.Y., won first prize in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. He wins a $25,000 cash reward and a separate commission to portray a living American for the gallery’s permanent collection.
