California certifies election in Biden’s favor

President-elect Joe Biden surpassed the needed 270 Electoral College votes after California certified its election results.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla approved the state’s results, giving Biden a victory on Friday evening, according to Bloomberg. Gov. Gavin Newsom will use the results to prepare the Certificate of Ascertainment appointing the state’s 55 electors for Biden.

States are certifying their Electoral College votes ahead of the Dec. 14 deadline.

Biden was declared the winner of the election by several media outlets in November, though President Trump has yet to concede to the Democrat. Trump is entangled in a series of lawsuits alleging voter fraud in the hopes of overturning states’ results in favor of his victory.

California has 55 electoral votes.
