Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer said he made mistakes in his communications post, but does not believe he ever lied on behalf of President Trump to the public, and said people shouldn’t be expecting an apology.
“I made mistakes,” Spicer told ABC News reporter Paula Faris. “There’s no question. I think we all do.”
“There are things that I did during my time there that … I needed to go out and correct. I did that. Where there were mistakes that were made that I got something wrong, I think I’ve owned that,” Spicer added.
Spicer refused to issue “some blanket apology” for mistakes he has made and did not specify which comments he was referring to from his seven months speaking for the president.
Faris asked if he ever lied to the public.
“I don’t think so,” Spicer said. “I have not knowingly done anything to … do that, no.”
Spicer, who shocked Americans Sunday night with a cameo at the Emmys, said Trump was “very supportive” of his appearance.
“He thought I did a great job. … It was very reassuring,” Spicer said about his phone call with Trump.
