Trump nominates US ambassador to Japan and two other posts

President Trump on Thursday evening announced his intention to nominate three officials to various posts in his administration.

Trump selected Althea Coetzee for deputy administrator of the Small Business Administration. Rear Admiral Coetzee of Virginia has worked as a small business owner and was called back on active duty in 2011. She currently works as chief of staff to the under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics.

William “Bill” Francis Hagerty IV was chosen for ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the U.S. to Japan. The Tennessee resident kicked his career off managing an international consulting firm’s relations with Japanese and Asian clients more than 30 years ago. From 2011 to 2015, Hagerty served as secretary for trade and commerce in the Tennessee governor’s cabinet.

The Trump administration picked Robert L. Sumwalt III for a five-year term membership on the National Transportation Safety Board, continuing the role he has had on the board since 2006. The South Carolina resident will also be designated vice chairman for a term of two years. He previously served in this leadership role from 2006 to 2008.

Sumwalt’s background includes more than three decades as a pilot, including 24 years working for U.S. Airways.
