Pizza delivery driver says he shot three who attempted to rob him

A pizza delivery driver in North Carolina said he fought back after four people attempted to rob him, shooting three.

Police said that the victim was dropping off pizza at an apartment complex in Charlotte, North Carolina, when a group of people approached the delivery driver and pointed what looked like a rifle at him. The man then pulled out his own gun and shot three of the four, according to WSOC.

The suspects fled after the shooting, but police were able to track three of them down near a laundromat.

“I heard some gunshots earlier in the night, and I looked out my window and there [were] cops everywhere,” said Danny Melenfant, a resident of the apartment complex. “They had somebody at gunpoint.”

Two of the three people that police initially discovered were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, while a fourth was dropped off at the hospital about an hour later with a gunshot wound to the chest. The delivery driver was not injured during the confrontation.

Two of the suspects are minors — one is 15 years old, and the other is 16 years old. The other two arrested are Toybyus Banks, 18, and 20-year-old Nemiah McInnis. Each of the four was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police said they recovered an assault-style weapon at the scene of the crime but after inspection determined it was fake and painted to look like a real rifle.

Authorities have not said if the delivery driver, who has not been named, will face charges.
