New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan announced her first major ad buy on Tuesday, as the battle between her and incumbent Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte heats up.
The ad campaign, titled “Got Involved,” focuses on the Democratic governor’s own family and how her special-needs son inspired her pursue a career in public service.
“All families have challenges, what’s really important is that they also have community,” Hassan says in the 60-second ad. “That’s one of the reasons I got involved in public service. Because it made it so clear to me how much you can accomplish when you work together.”
The six-figure TV ad campaign is Hassan’s first in the Granite State. Her campaign plans to run the ad on local broadcast stations throughout New Hampshire and the Boston area, in addition to promoting a digital version.
Hassan has trailed her Republican opponent in fundraising since she announced her bid for the New Hampshire Senate seat last October. First quarter fundraising totals released last month showed her trailing Ayotte by $4 million, with $2.9 million cash on hand.
The latest WMUR/University of New Hampshire poll of Granite State voters, taken in mid-April, found Hassan just 1 percentage point behind Ayotte (43 to 42 percent) and well within the poll’s 3.9 margin of error.
