Sen. Al Franken on Wednesday indicated that he’ll be sticking around in the Senate into 2018, and said he wants to deliver a series of “final speeches” before he leaves the upper chamber.
On the Senate floor, Franken said he wants to deliver these speeches before he leaves the Senate “in a few weeks.”
“I’m taking to the Senate floor to give the first of what will be a series of final speeches, this one focused on my work to improve education on behalf of Minnesotans and all Americans,” he said on Facebook.
Franken came under pressure this month to resign by his own Democratic colleagues, after several women came forward to accuse him of sexual assault. Some women said he groped them, and others said he forcibly kissed them.
After one woman said he was “entitled” to grope women as an entertainer, several Democratic women called on him to resign. On Dec. 7, Franken said he would leave, but admitted no wrongdoing.
Franken has yet to say when he would leave the Senate, even though Minnesota’s Democratic governor has chosen a replacement.
Franken gave no further hints on the floor or on Facebook when he would leave.
