Trump supporter charged with death threats against members of Congress

A Utah man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly threatening multiple members of Congress, calling the Capitol more than 2,000 times and often ranting to staff about Democrats.

Scott Brian Haven, 54, was arrested Tuesday and charged with interstate transmission of threats to injure.

Although the names and parties of the members of Congress are not identified in the federal charging document, it does reveal some of Haven’s threats.

In one of the calls he is accused of saying that he wanted to slice the head off of a senator — on that day alone Haven called the Capitol switchboard 32 times. In September 2018, charging documents say that Haven called the office of the same senator and told staff that Democrats were “trying to destroy Trump’s presidency” before saying that he was “coming to hang that f—ker.”

In another incident he allegedly called the office of a congressman and said he was “going to shoot him in the head.” During some of the profanity-laden rants, the caller referred to himself as Adolf Hitler and George Washington.

When the caller was transferred to a special agent from the Capitol switchboard, he dared authorities to arrest him.

“Come arrest me!” Haven said, then threatening to beat up the agent if he tried. When the caller was asked if he was threatening a federal agent, Haven allegedly responded, “What are you gonna do?”

At his initial hearing Wednesday, a judge ordered Haven remain jailed and called him a danger to the community.
