Ronald Reagan Presidential Library threatened by Simi Valley fire

A wildfire in California is getting dangerously close to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library as firefighters battle blazes throughout the state.

The library, which is located in Simi Valley, California, was included in a region that is under evacuation as the “Easy Fire” continues to spread. The “Easy Fire” started as a small, 15 acre blaze but strong winds spread the fire to cover more than 170 acres.

The fire seemed to only be burning vegetation north of the city, but threatened nearby residential areas.

A library spokesperson explained that the facility will be closed on Wednesday to comply with the evacuation process. Fire crews have positioned themselves around the library to fend off any flames if the fire continues to approach the library.

The National Weather Service has many California cities, including Simi Valley, under “extreme red flag warnings” due to the 80 mile-per-hour Santa Ana winds that are fanning flames throughout the state.

“This all adds up to an extreme fire weather threat, meaning that conditions are as dangerous for fire growth and behavior as we have seen in recent memory,” the National Weather Service warned. “Use extreme caution with any potential ignition sources, and residents in high fire risk areas should be ready and set to evacuate if emergency officials say so.”
