English football Hall of Famer David Beckham was spotted waiting in line to see Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin in London on Friday.
Beckham got in the line where the queen was lying in state in Westminster Hall at 2 a.m. Friday, but still ended up waiting 12 hours. An online tracker has reported the wait time has increased to as much as 22 hours.
“I grew up in a household of royalists, and I was brought up that way,” Beckham told reporters as he shuffled in the line. “If my grandparents would have been here today, I know that they would have wanted to be here. So I’m here on their behalf and on behalf of my family, and obviously to celebrate with everybody else here.”

Beckham claimed he snacked on doughnuts, Pringles, and coffee while waiting with people of all ages. Meanwhile, other British celebrities cut the line to see the coffin. There is a separate private line for celebrities of Beckham’s stature.
“This day was always going to be difficult, and it’s difficult for the nation. It’s difficult for everyone around the world because I think everyone is feeling it,” Beckham said. “Our thoughts are with the family, and obviously with everybody here today because it’s special to be here to celebrate and to hear the different stories.”
