US hasn’t confirmed ISIS responsible for Manchester attack

American intelligence sources have not yet independently verified that the Islamic State is responsible for Monday night’s attack on an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, that killed 22.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said Tuesday the US hasn’t confirmed that ISIS attackers are responsible for the attack. ISIS has claimed responsibility but presented no evidence for the claim.

“It’s a tragic situation that we see all too much of happening in countries around the world,” Coats said.

He added, “ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack in Manchester. Although they claim responsibility for virtually every attack, we have not verified yet the connection.”

SITE Intelligence Group reportd ISIS released a statement claiming “a soldier” placed explosive devices in the crowd at the arena. Twenty-two concert goers were killed and an additional 59 were injured.

The ISIS statement reported the attacker was killed during the attack.

Police say one person is responsible for the attack and used an improvised explosive device.
