Renee Zellweger’s rep for being unlucky in love rivals Jennifer Aniston’s. After failed romances with comedian Jim Carrey and rocker Jack White, the “New in Town” star famously annulled a four-month marriage to country star Kenny Chesney in 2005 — and hasn’t had a serious relationship since.
But could that be about to change? Page Six reports that Bridget Jones’ alter ego was spotted on a date Saturday night with MSNBC personality Dan Abrams (whose exes include Elle Macpherson). The two were reportedly ensconced at a “cozy table for two” at Long Island’s American Hotel.
Hmmm — this is Page Six we’re talking about, and there was no “canoodling” mentioned? Can’t be too serious … at least not yet.
Kelly: Divorce Drama
When Kelly Rutherford filed for divorce from Daniel Giersch while pregnant with her second child, we had a feeling something must be very wrong. And, indeed, court papers said the “Gossip Girl” star file alleges that she had to call police on more than one occasion after her husband menaced her in front of their 2-year-old son, Hermes.
Kelly states in the documents, obtained by People, that the first incident occurred “because [he] kept yelling at me in front of Hermes, and threatening that he was going to take Hermes.”
“[He] kept saying that I was ‘going to learn,’ and that he was ‘going to teach [me] a lesson,’” Kelly claims, adding that her estranged hubby is “an avid boxer and a kickboxer, and I am intimidated by him.”
The second time, she called in cops because Daniel “had cornered me and come within inches of my face. He would not back away,” Kelly relays. “I was crying and [he] was yelling at me. I remember [him] again saying that I was ‘going to learn’ and he was again threatening to take Hermes away.”
Neither incident led to an arrest.
Through his attorney, Daniel released a statement that read, “I don’t want to comment because all of these accusations from Kelly are false and are intended to damage my reputation. I am solely seeking what is in our children’s best interest.”
Something tells us this is going to get a lot uglier before it gets resolved. Hang in there, Hermes.
Hudson Suspect’s Plea
The suspect in the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew has pleaded not guilty to the charges. William Balfour, the estranged husband of the singer’s sister Julia Hudson entered his plea Tuesday in a Chicago criminal court.
The bodies of Darnell Donerson, Jason Hudson and 7-year-old Julian King were found in October, and suspicion quickly focused on William. He is charged with first-degree murder and home invasion, and is being held without bail; he’ll return to court Jan. 27.
The legal proceedings come just as Jennifer is preparing to emerge from her seclusion — in a very big way. The “Dreamgirls” star will return to the public eye in February with two super-high-profile performances: at the Super Bowl and the Grammy Awards.
We’re rooting for Jennifer — let’s hope the court proceedings don’t distract her from getting her life back on track.
Brad: Shark Tale
Playing a man who ages in reverse in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Brad Pitt has naturally fielded a lot of reporters’ questions about his own attitude toward aging. At a German press conference to promote the film Monday, the star said he doesn’t dread aging — but does stress about kicking the bucket.
“I’m not so afraid of getting old,” the actor declared. “I’m more afraid of how I’ll go.”
Speculating on the possible method of his demise, Brad mused that “fire and tight spaces don’t appeal … A shark would be interesting.”
And we thought Angelina was weird for collecting knives. What kind of person thinks being eaten by a shark would be “interesting”?
