Rapidly expanding advertising company grows client base

In 2003, Bill Harper and Barbara Brotman Kaylor decided to take a chance and start an advertising agency together.

The decision turned out to be a good one.

“We grew 170.59 percent in 2005, 160 percent over that in 2006, and we?re expecting 170 percent growth over last year in 2007,” said Brotman Kaylor, a partner at Rooftop Communications, the duo’s full service advertising and PR agency. “We are right on target [with this year] too, but in this industry you never count your chickens before they are hatched.”

With a staff of 16 and client base of 14, the company was voted 2006?s fastest-growing company by the Baltimore Business Journal, and has been one of Smart CEO’s Future 50 twice in a row.

“I think we are growing so quickly that people have their eyes on us,” Brotman Kaylor said. “People are seeking us out, not only from an administrative perspective but a creative perspective as well.”

Most recently, Rooftop helped Maryland-based Music and Arts Centers develop a new branding campaign, which will launch in May. “It took many months to get to this point, but the new branding work is really knock-your-socks-off type creative,” Brotman Kaylor said.

“Rooftop isn?t afraid to try new things, they are innovative and creative,” said Emily Reagan, vice president of marketing at Music and Arts Centers. “They arealso incredibly proactive and responsive, which was a great thing about working with a smaller agency in general.”
