Facebook is looking to hire a research analyst tasked with combating terrorism on the social network from the company’s office in Washington, D.C.
The position will lead “efforts around identifying the latest tools, tactics and infrastructure used by terrorist actors as they affect Facebook and its ecosystems,” according to a job posting made public Thursday.
Facebook said the position would “drive cross-functional and cross-industry initiatives to better understand terrorists and contemporary militant groups” and work to determine “the credibility value, significance, and relevance of information” the company monitors.
Qualifications required for the position include “language skills” and experience in programming languages that include SQL and Python.
Social networking platforms, especially Facebook and Twitter, are seeking to be more public in efforts to combat terrorism amid criticism that they have not done enough.
Twitter this year formed a “Trust and Safety Council” to police content created by its users, and announced its suspension of around 360,000 accounts affiliated with the Islamic State over the past year.
