Good Samaritans help rescue upstate New York man

DUANESBURG, N.Y. (AP) — State police say a 24-year-old upstate New York man was saved by passing motorists after the vehicle he was driving veered off a highway into a pond.

Colin Lomax of Delanson was in intensive care at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after Friday’s early-morning crash.

Troopers say the accident happened around dawn when Lomax’s vehicle traveled across a fire department parking lot in Duanesburg, hit a monument and flag pole, careened through a fence into the pond, and became submerged.

A female motorist saw the accident and alerted two male motorists, who stopped to help. They broke a window in the vehicle and pulled the semi-conscious Lomax out.

His family said he was in good shape Friday night.
