House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the only thing Democrats need to maintain their majorities is to turn “out the vote,” despite projections that Republicans are slightly favored to win both chambers this November and with midterm elections typically serving as a referendum on the performance of the sitting president.
“We know that the public is with us, it’s just a question of turning out the vote,” she told ABC News. “Any doubt that anyone might have in their minds about the enthusiasm of the Democratic voter — should be dispelled by the Dobbs decision,” she added, referring to the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision earlier this year that ended nationwide access to abortion.
MIDTERMS 2022: LIVE UPDATES FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL AHEAD OF CRUCIAL ELECTION
Pelosi insinuating that the country leans more toward the Democrats before the midterm elections comes in contrast to recent polling which shows that voters in Arizona and Nevada believe they would be better off with Republicans taking control of Congress.
In both Arizona and Nevada, each with key Senate races in November, 47% of likely voters believe they would be better off if Republicans win control of Congress, according to a new CNN poll released Thursday. Comparatively, only 40% of voters in Arizona and 36% in Nevada believe they’d be worse off with a GOP majority in Congress.
That sentiment among voters is likely due to the fact that the economy and inflation have emerged as key issues in the midterm elections, and many voters in those states have given President Joe Biden low-performance ratings in both those categories. Pelosi pushed back on those assertions, arguing Republicans “can’t do any more about inflation than we are.”

“You’ve got a lot of Republicans on the ballot who still don’t accept the last election,” ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos said, referring to candidates who have run on campaigns denying the results of the 2020 presidential election.
“Well, that’s pathetic,” Pelosi replied. “Just win, baby.”
