Beloved actor Dwayne Hickman dead at age 87

Dwayne Hickman, a beloved actor, director, and producer, died at the age of 87 on Sunday.

Hickman, who was known for his role in the 50s and 60s sitcom The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, died from complications related to Parkinson’s disease, Variety reported.

Born on May 18, 1934, in Los Angeles, California, Hickman started his acting career by appearing in the films The Boy With the Green Hair and The Grapes of Wrath.

As a teenager, Hickman went on to appear with comedian Chuck MacDonald in comedy sitcom The Bob Cummings Show.

Hickman received the lead role as Dobie Gillis in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis in 1959. During the 1970s, Hickman became an executive with CBS Television and oversaw the production for shows such as Maude, M*A*S*H, and Designing Women.

Hickman was married three times, first to actress Carol Christensen and the second time to singer Joanne Papile.

He leaves behind his wife, Joan Roberts, whom he married in 1983, as well as his two sons, Albert and John.
