A Baltimore man allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend?s current boyfriend in a Columbia apartment, then jumped from a window, police said.
The victim of the Sunday stabbing, Jefferson Bolden, of Columbia, and the suspect, Kazeem Akinniyi, 25, remained in serious condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Akinniyi, of 5138 Woolverton Ave., suffered injuries when he jumped from the window.
The woman, whose name was not released, was not injured. She told police she and Bolden were awakened about 4:50 a.m. Sunday when Akinniyi kicked down the front door of their apartment on the 5900 block of Turnabout Lane in Columbia.
The woman said Akinniyi began repeatedly stabbing Bolden in bed, according to police, but Akinniyi missed when trying to stab her.
Bolden tried to escape through the front door, but it was jammed from being kicked in by Akinniyi, police said, and Akinniyi caught up to Bolden and began stabbing him again.
Akinniyi then tried to leave through the front door, but also found it jammed. He jumped from a window to escape and broke a bone in his leg, said Sherry Llewellyn, Howard County police spokeswoman.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found Bolden suffering from multiple stab wounds and Akinniyi injured outside the apartment.
Police are guarding Akinniyi at the hospital until he is released and can be formally charged with attempted murder, assault, breaking and entering, and reckless endangerment.
According to court records, Akinniyi is awaiting trial in Howard County in February for first-degree burglary and first-degree assault charges in connection with a Sept. 13 incident. A domestic violence charge filed the next day was dropped due to insufficient evidence. Akinniyi had posted $5,000 bail and was released from jail Oct. 3, according to court records.
A peace order was filed against Akinniyi in Howard County in April 2006, but the order was dismissed because the petitioner did not appear in court, according to records.
Llewellyn could not confirm whether the peace order was filed by the same ex-girlfriend.
Calls to the victims? apartment were not answered.
