Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, is the subject of a new investigation concerning money laundering, according to a report Tuesday.
The Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office launched an investigation into Manafort and is teaming up with special counsel Robert Mueller, who is heading the probe to determine if the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election, to investigate potential money laundering, the Wall Street Journal reported.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, a Democrat, also has joined forces with Mueller to investigate Manafort.
Mueller previously told Manafort his team intends to charge him with possible tax and financial crimes and investigated Manafort’s actions spanning 11 years, according to CNN.
In July, the FBI conducted a search of Manafort’s home. The search warrant said the investigation covered potential crimes that were committed starting in 2006.
Just last week, Trump allegedly interviewed Geoffrey Berman, a candidate for becoming the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, which oversees Manhattan and is joining forces with the Mueller probe.
