Republican Party offices in Hillsborough, N.C., were found destroyed Sunday morning, with threatening graffiti on the scene telling Republicans to “leave town or else.”

“The office itself is a total loss,” Dallas Woodhouse, the executive director of the state Republican Party, told the Charlotte Observer. “The only thing important to us is that nobody was killed, and they very well could have been.”
The building was firebombed with a bottle of flammable liquid thrown through a front window. Graffiti on an adjacent building included the words, “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else.”
Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens issued a statement of condemnation, calling the incident “highly disturbing. He added, “It willfully threatens our community’s safety via fire, and its hateful message undermines decency, respect and integrity in civic participation.”
Police are investigating the incident.
