‘Going redneck’: Woman faces murder charges after pit bull attack

A Kentucky woman is behind bars after police said she killed a man with the help of her pit bull.

Melissa Wolke, 38, was arrested on a murder charge for the fatal attack. Police in Mount Vernon, Kentucky, said they were called about a report that a woman and dog were assaulting a man. When officers arrived, they said they found Wolke on top of 55-year-old Donald Abner.

Police said they saw Wolke beating Abner in the face while the pit bull tore into his body.

Wolke told officers that she was “going redneck on the male subject.” A man who alerted authorities to the attack said he heard Wolke commanding her dog to attack Abner.

Once police arrived, the pit bull became aggressive to officers and left them with “no option but to eliminate the dog,” which was shot during the incident. Wolke was also described as “belligerent and aggressive” after the attack.

“She appeared to have blood on her hands and feet, and had a large clump of hair in her hands that was consistent with the victim’s hair,” police wrote in their report.

Abner was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple bite marks on his neck and face.

In addition to the murder charge, Wolke was charged with alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
