Schumer: Democrats will hold Senate majority after midterm elections

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is confident that Democrats will keep control of the Senate as early voting continues and the midterm elections arrive in four days.

Schumer said he believes Democrats will not only successfully defend seats they hold in battleground states but also pick up seats from Republicans.

“It’s tight,” Schumer told the Associated Press. “I believe Democrats will hold the Senate and maybe even pick up seats.”

DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAS ‘NEVER BEEN GOOD AT STRATEGIC POLITICAL DECISIONS’: TIM RYAN

Battleground states include Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, and New Hampshire, as Democratic incumbents attempt to fend off strong Republican challengers, and Pennsylvania, as both parties are vigorously campaigning for an open seat. Three recent Marist polls released in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania were overall positive for Democrats.

In Pennsylvania, Democrat John Fetterman leads Republican Mehmet Oz by 6 points among those who say they definitely plan to vote in this year’s election, at 51% to 45%. The race has gained attention amid concerns over Fetterman’s health after he had a stroke and required closed captioning at debates and in interviews.

Georgia is another significant race for the midterm elections, as Republican candidate Herschel Walker faces a series of abortion allegations that have required several high-profile GOP members, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), to rally to his campaign in the days leading up to the election.

Walker is trailing opponent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), according to a new Marist poll. Warnock leads Walker by 4 points among registered voters, but they are tied among those who say they definitely plan on voting on Nov. 8.

Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (D) holds a 4-point lead over Republican challenger Blake Masters. Arizona has gained a lot of attention since the 2020 election as one of a few states attacked by former President Donald Trump on false claims of election fraud.

The subject of the 2020 election has been a frequent campaign tool among Republican candidates in Arizona, especially Republican Kari Lake, who faces Democrat Katie Hobbs in the gubernatorial race.
