DEA collects pounds of prescription drugs from U.Md. students

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration collected 27 pounds of prescription drugs from University of Maryland students this weekend, the campus newspaper reported.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day encourages students to get rid of unwanted drugs. It’s the second time the program was conducted at the school, according to the Diamondback.

Last year, 49 pounds of drugs — including Vicodin, Percocet, Ritalin and Valium —were collected.

The program seeks to stop those drugs from being abused and also give students a proper mechanism for getting rid of them.
